My Mother warned me about days like today

I realized yesterday that the shawl I was knitting was in the wrong gage (which is probably what happened to the last one too now that I’m thinking about it) I’m just making it for myself so I’ll just frog and start over.  The fact that this didn’t bother me when I was at the halfway point should have been the first clue.

The fact that I didn’t have a problem starting it (I’ve never not had problems starting a piece of knitting), should have been the second clue.

Life in general had been going far too smoothly and I was lulled into a sense of calm and confidence.

Today Fate kicked my royally in the arse.  Ran late after getting up early & didn’t have time to make lunch or grab much in the way of breakfast, almost lost my work & bus pass on the street (a lady actually ran after me to give it back when she saw it drop – that was the high point of the day) when the holder broke.

I answer phones for a living, I take cancellation requests, so by extension I’m the complaints department.  As the saying goes, I knew the job was dangerous when I took it.  I’ve been doing this for 10 years now, there is nothing that you can say that is going to ruffle me.  I’ve had people curse me and threaten me, I’ve been called every name in the book.  I love my mute button and I will sit and knit until your done, piss me off, 3 warnings and I hang up.  Mostly I just get the run of the mill tough guys and barterers.  There are some days though that you just get it all, and those are the days that you need quiet.

Today was one of those days.  Didn’t have any cursing, but everyone seemed to not understand the old saying “you attract more flies with honey then vinegar” (why you would want to attract flies is beyond me – but that’s not the point).

I’m going to have to go in tomorrow and clean up some things, which is annoying as I’m off tomorrow.  I’m thinking that I’ll hit the gym first, that always seems to calm me down (or wear me out, take your pick).

I now have 5 days off, I’m going to spend the whole time knitting with maybe some shopping thrown in.  Need a few more groceries but other then that I have a long date with my balcony & my knitting.
