Finally some FOs!

It’s been a while since I had an FO to post here.  And now I’ve got 3 of them!  Almost 4.

I finished the baby socks, hat, and sweater for J’s friend.

Can I just say SOCKS!  They’re so tiny!   For size reference, that spoon?  That’s a tea spoon.  They have lost of stretch though so they can grow with the child.

And this is the “watermelon” sweater that I did.  There is a picture of it with the little flower buttons I added, but I forgot my camera at home so no pics for now.

The socks ended up being a pattern of my own design.  The sweater is Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Baby Surprise Jacket which is adorable.

The hat was the  Berry Baby Hat by Michele Sabatier.  Wonderful easy knit with great results.  The only mod I made to the hat pattern was I did the “adult” size with a DK weight yarn, which came out to a baby size.

I’m also binding off my Peacock Feathers Shawl.  Finally.  Can I just say that crochet chain bind-offs, while they look great, take for freaking ever.  I spent just over 2 hours binding off last night, I’m not quite half way through.

Pictures of that to come.

Not so lazy spring

I didn’t get the peacock shawl done in time for Sarah’s graduation yesterday, but the ceremony was wonderful and she now officially has her Masters and woohoo!

I will have pictures but I’ve got to get them off the camera first so they might not show up until next week.

On the knitting front: I’m 30 rows from the end of the peacock shawl, I only have the seaming on the Baby Surprise Jacket, I’m most of the way into the berry baby hat, and I have a sock pattern all picked out.

Just add buttons!

I re-cast on for the socks that I was designing.  The original one is far to small and nothing is going to help that so slightly larger needles (2.5mm vs 2.25mm) and an extra repeat should solve the problem.  Unless my math is wrong, which is always a possibility.  I’ll get a picture of it once it’s a little farther along.

Tonight though I’m planning on doing some sewing.  Need to get some bags done for people & see if I can make the box bags that I’ve been thinking about.

Random on a Thursday

1 – I’m 193 rows into my 250 on the Peacock Feathers Shawl.  That gives me another 57 rows to go.  I didn’t make my 13 rows last night, which means that I’ve not got to do 15/night now and they’re just getting longer.

2 – I want to participate in the Tour de Fleece (Rav link) this year, and do it right this time.  This means that I have to get my current spinning done and off the wheel by the end of June.

3 – Finding the “mirror” setting on the photocopier?  Best thing ever!  At least for charts that have to be reversed, because some days there isn’t enough caffeine in the world to make my head do that on the fly.

4 – Being able to run out for lunch for coffee and knitting with a good friend.

5 – Having waaaaaay to much caffeine in a day …

Racing & Pugs

I’m on row 169 of 250, which works out to about 14 rows per day.  I’m still going to try, but a beaded shawl?  With ever growing rows?  Might not happen.

I’ve put the baby stuff on hold for the week to finish this.  The Baby Surprise Jacket (Elizabeth Zimmerman) is almost done and then it’ll be a nights work for the hat and another night for the booties, I’m not all that worried.

Last weekend was Pugfest, which is put on by our local rescue organization, Under My Wing Pug Rescue.

A room full of pugs.

And the aftermath.  Gadget, passed out, with his “kills” spread out in front of him.

Now to try and get another row or 2 done.

An apology

I’d like to give an apology to my readers, I haven’t been posting as frequently as I was.  There is a good reason for it though.  I normally post on my lunch hour at work, except with the onset of the good weather I’ve been going out to sit in cafes with friends who work downtown as well, which means no time to post.  I’m going to try and start posting in the evenings at home for now and see how that works.

First off, some FOs:

And that about sums up everything that I’ve finished lately.  And yes, that is me holding the hats.  I’m still not all that sure about being in front of the camera, but we’ll give it a shot.

I’ve been working on the watermelon baby set that I’m doing for Julie to give as a gift, but I’ll show more on that later.

Sarah, who is amazing and smart, finished her masters in Occupational Therapy this year!  (you can’t see the grin I have while I type this, but it looks very similar to the one in the picture above)

I’ve decided that I’m going to finish my beaded peacock feathers shawl this week.  I want to wear it to Sarah’s graduation on Monday.  I’m on row 150 of 250.  There should only (only) be about 500 stitches on the bind of row.  But I’ve still got to get there.  I need to figure out how many rows/stitches I need to do per night to make it, but I have a sinking feeling that the answer is going to be “a lot.”

Baby things

I very much love Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Baby Surprise Jacket.  (Yes, I know what I’ve said before about Zimmerman – I take it all back, I am a convert!)  I try not to knit things twice, there is too much good stuff out there to repeat myself, but this will be my third (fourth?) go at this jacket.  It’s a wonderful thing for a baby, easy to knit, easy to vary the size, and in my case, easy to modify.

I’m doing a watermelon theme as a gift for a friend of a friend (gift for my friend to give to hers).  I’ve wanted to do Michele Sabatier’s Berry Baby Hat for ages but haven’t had the right excuse, now I do! I’m going to do mine in green for the rolled rim & pink for the main body with some black over stitches for seeds.  The jacket will be stripped with the greens, white and large sections of pink, again with the black over stitches.

This is going to be the only project for a while because this one really has a deadline!

This is going to be done in Knit Picks Comfy Fingerling in flamingo, peapod, jalapeno, and white.  I figure a cotton blend is much more practical for a summer baby and this stuff is machine washable. Perfect.

Now back to knitting a pod casts!
